Aquatic Guidance Lighting (AGL)

AGL is one of our most specialized lighting applications. This bioengineering technology has proved to be far less expensive than physical barriers at intakes on cooling towers, hydro plants, and dams. It can be used either as a stand-alone system or an enhancement to existing, under performing physical barriers. Unlike physical barriers, maintenance is easy and inexpensive, consisting only of the periodic replacement of flash tubes.

    How does it work?

Because of their natural aversion to rapidly pulsing lights, the movement of many species of fish can be directed. AGL uses powerful, rapidly pulsing underwater strobes to create a wall of light in front of water intakes. Fish will not acclimate to the light, even after long-term exposure. Field-testing conducted by federal and state agency scientists and consultants, has demonstrated the effectiveness of AGL. Since every site is unique, we will be glad to discuss your potential application.

The Aquatic Guidance system is comprised of three main products.

    FH 920 Flash Head:
    • Choose omni directional or unidirectional light output.
    • Water tight to 200 feet.
    • Easy-change, linear flash tube cartridge.
    • Bottom-weighted to ensure proper orientation.
    • Quick release connector.
    • Multiple mounting options.
    • Use for salt or fresh water applications.
    • Negatively buoyant (15lbs).
    Power Converter:
    • The Power Converter provides power and triggering for the FH 920 strobe light.
    • The unit can be operated stand alone or as part of a multiple light system using the FTC 190 controllers.
    • Capable of 120,300 and 360 flashes per minute.
    • Manual Flash rate switch.
    • Uses RS-485 communication.
    FTC 190 Controller:
    • User-friendly interface via a 6” color touch screen display.
    • Controls up to 32 PC 920 strobe light power converters.
    • Remote monitoring and operation by Ethernet, or using an optional modem card and software.
    • Additional I/O with up to 3 expansion cards.
    • Available expansion card that allows for analog or dry-contact input and relay output.
