Flash Announces New LED Safety Features
Franklin, Tenn. (February 18, 2016) – As the market for LED tower lighting continues to grow, so does the demand for increased LED safety features.
The Flash Technology Vanguard® infrared (IR) obstruction light addresses a growing need. LED obstruction lighting requires night vision goggle (NVG) compatibility, especially near military bases and emergency heliports. As their output falls within the visible light spectrum, the naked eye sees red and white LEDs. However, some NVGs and NVIS (night vision imaging systems) cannot see LED light. Because these systems detect IR wavelengths, pilots have navigational challenges.
Flash Technology introduces the Vanguard 370 IR series, an obstruction lighting system using infrared LEDs visible to NVGs and NVIS. The IR series includes a wide range of unique LED safety features.
LED Safety Features
- IR LEDs use the same optics as red and white LEDs. This ensures pilots with NVGs or NVIS are not disoriented if an infrared output is at an improper beam angle. As a result, pilots recognize the clean beam pattern as an obstruction light.
- Monitoring IR circuitry separately helps to avoid unnecessary truck rolls. It can also be combined with the night alarm if monitoring capability is limited.
- The IR string and red and white LEDs use the same bypass circuitry. So a single LED can fail without losing an entire string, thus prolonging the life of the flashhead.
