São Bento do Norte Wind Farm – Brazil
A sleepy coastal town in northeastern Brazil, São Bento do Norte is home to about 3,000 residents. The district also hosts a 94 MW wind complex.
The São Bento do Norte wind complex comprises 47 Vestas 2MW turbines installed across the district.
- São Bento do Norte – 15 turbines (30 MW)
- Dreen Boa Vista – 7 turbines (14 MW)
- Dreen Olho D’Água – 15 turbines (30 MW)
- Farol – 10 turbines (20 MW)
A dedicated transmission system connecting the wind farm to the national grid was also erected.
The wind complex was originally developed by local firms Dreen Brasil and Galvao Energia. Copel acquired a 49.9% stake in June 2011, and the remaining 51.1% in December 2013.
At the end of 2016, Brazil’s share of the world’s installed wind power capacity was 2.2% or 10,740 MW.
